On 4 May Professor Danuta Hübner met with Castilla y León (Spain) Regional Minister for Finance, Mrs. Pilar del Olmo accompanied by the General Director for Budget and European Funds in the Spanish region.
The objective of the discussion was to exchange views on the future cohesion policy and the role that is reserved to regions in the Europe 2020 Strategy. Castilla y León is a region suffering from depopulation and bearing high costs of maintenance of forests. Its challenge is to enhance the development of tourism and generate new jobs. Castilla y León is actively involved in the future of regional policy discussion and participated in the open consultation to the 2020 Strategy underlining the importance of cohesion policy and its visibility for European citizens.
